Teletherapy for Patients with OUD During Covid-19 and Beyond
Description
Telehealth for group and individual therapy for patients with opioid use disorder. (No CME offered for this course.)
Learning Objectives
Define teletherapy
Review federal regulations regarding provision of teletherapy during COVID-19 national emergency
Identify HIPAA compliant teletherapy platforms
Describe strategies for conducting both group and individual teletherapy sessions
Discuss management of OUD in the context of social distancing, stay at home, and shelter in place orders
Coding/billing for teletherapy visits
Access resources regarding teletherapy and OUD
Course Information
This is the second webinar in the telehealth series for the Opioid Response Network (ORN).
This webinar is hosted by the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine through a Opioid Response Network STR-TA grant.
The target audience for this webinar is physicians, PAs and providers of therapy, individual and group, but case managers and peer recovery coaches may also benefit.
A follow up Q&A webinar will be on May 11, 2020 at 5:00PM ET. Registration is required.

Speakers
Laura R. Lander, MSW, AADC
Laura R. Lander, MSW, AADC is an Associate Professor, Social Work Section Chief and Addiction Therapist in the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, and Department of Neuroscience, at West Virginia University, School of Medicine. She graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, and currently holds licensure as an Independent Clinical Social Worker under the West Virginia Board of Social Work Licensure. She previously served as the Clinical Coordinator of the Child Outpatient Clinic at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, and was Director of Adult Mental Health Services at the Pederson Krag Center, Smithtown, NY. She is a member of the National Association of Social Work and the National Association of Addiction Professionals. Her areas of focus professionally are in the treatment of substance use disorders, medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorders, the impact of substance use disorders on the family and she conducts a variety of research in these areas.
Emily Chilko, MSW
Emily Chilko, MSW, LICSW is a native of West Virginia who works as an addiction counselor and addiction educator for WVU Medicine and WVU School of Social Work and School of Counseling. She received a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications from the University of Washington and a master's in social work from WVU. Her areas of clinical expertise include working with addiction, adolescents and families, SBIRT and Teletherapy.
Julie Kmiec, DO, FAOAAM
Julie Kmiec, DO, graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. She completed her general psychiatry residency training and addiction psychiatry fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) in Pittsburgh, PA. She is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is board certified in general and addiction psychiatry. Dr. Kmiec is the Medical Director of the Ambulatory Detoxification Program and Bridge Clinic, as well as the Narcotic Addiction Treatment Program.
Her clinical interests include treatment of drug and alcohol withdrawal, prevention of overdose, and pharmacotherapy for the treatment of addictions. Dr. Kmiec’s research involves training healthcare professionals on the implementation of medications for opioid use disorder. She is the Immediate Past President of the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine.
