Description:
This webinar will discuss challenges of illicit fentanyl consumption. The data presented will discuss a recent operational definition of precipitated opioid withdrawal, drawn from an empirical study, and will introduce how the unique absorption, distribution, metabolization, and excretion of fentanyl may be contributing to fentanyl's unique profile of effects in patients.

  1. Learn about the peripheral distribution and excretion patterns of fentanyl
  2. Understand how fentanyl may be interacting in unique ways with buprenorphine

Kelly E. Dunn, Ph.D., MBA

Kelly E. Dunn, Ph.D., MBA is a Professor in the Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Dunn has worked in the area of opioid use disorder treatment and withdrawal mitigation since 2005 and has served as the Principal Investigator on grants totaling more than $20 million from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Dr. Dunn has also served in positions of leadership in the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) field, including incoming Editor-in-Chief of the journal Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology (ECP), President-elect and member of the Board of Directors for the College on the Problems of Drug Dependence, the 2021 President of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Division on Psychopharmacology and Substance Use, Chair of the Board of Convention Affairs for the APA annual convention, and Co-Editor at the Journal of Addiction Medicine. She is also the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Opioids and Opioid Use Disorder.
