ORN Summer 2024 - Drugs & Bugs: Case-Based Pearls for Integrated SUD-Infectious Diseases Care in the Hospital

A case-based lecture focused on innovations in providing hospitalized patients with optimal care for both addiction and infections with a whole-person, harm reduction-oriented approach.

Learning objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar, attendees should be able to:
  1. Explore multidisciplinary approaches to SUD and Infectious Disease management.
  2. Implement harm reduction strategies in ID and/or SUD treatment settings (including acute care).
  3. Utilize shared decision making (SDM) to reduce barriers to care for people who use drugs.

What is ORN
Ayesha Appa, MD

Dr. Ayesha Appa is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital and a clinician investigator triply board-certified in Infectious Diseases, Addiction Medicine, and Internal Medicine. Her research program is centered on the integration of care for substance use disorders and HIV/serious infections, with an emphasis on implementing practical healthcare models.

This actvity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Osteopathic Association and The American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine (AOAAM). The American Osteopathic Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
