Overview
Welcome to the AOAAM Addiction Medicine Board Certification Review Course! This session is a review of the genetic underpinnings of the individual susceptibility and development of addiction. This will be tied into the potential environmental and epigenetic influences on genetics. Flowing from there will be a review of the current understanding of the neurobiology of addiction, from first reward to the development of the disease.

A Comprehensive Review of Alcohol Use Disorders
Overview
During this course there will be a review of the epidemiology of alcohol use disorders. There will information on the individual susceptibility to the disease and how understanding this can lead to individualize prevention. The screening for and brief intervention of alcohol use, will be reviewed along with the biologic markers of the disease. Treatment of alcohol use disorders will be reviewed from current withdrawal recommendations to post abstinent chronic care.

Overview
Stimulant use disorder includes amphetamines, methamphetamines, cocaine, and other stimulants. This presentation covers the neurobiology of stimulant use disorder, definition of stimulant use disorder and prevalence, its clinical manifestations including intoxication and withdrawal, misuse and diversion of prescription stimulants, and treatment approaches for individuals with stimulant use disorder.
