A case-based lecture focused on innovations in providing hospitalized patients with optimal care for both addiction and infections with a whole-person, harm reduction-oriented approach.

  1. Explore multidisciplinary approaches to SUD and Infectious Disease management.
  2. Implement harm reduction strategies in ID and/or SUD treatment settings (including acute care).
  3. Utilize shared decision making (SDM) to reduce barriers to care for people who use drugs.

Speaker:
Ayesha Appa, MD

Dr. Ayesha Appa is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital and a clinician investigator triply board-certified in Infectious Diseases, Addiction Medicine, and Internal Medicine. Her research program is centered on the integration of care for substance use disorders and HIV/serious infections, with an emphasis on implementing practical healthcare models.
