This lecture will review the prevalence and challenges in managing patients with co-occurring opioid use disorder, depression and self-injurious behavior.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusoin of the seminar, learners will be able to:
  1. Summarize the incidence and outcomes of co-occurring opioid use disorders, depression and self-injurious behavior 
  2. Distinguish intentional and non-intentional overdose 
  3. Identify strategies to improve the identification of patients with opioid use disorder, depression and self-injurious behavior
  4. Examine challenges to improving outcomes for patients with co-occurring opioid use disorders, depression and self-injurious behavior

Speaker:
Erin Winstanley, PhD

Dr. Erin Winstanley is an Associate Professor at West Virginia University, Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. Dr. Winstanley received her doctoral degree from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, she has postdoctoral training in behavioral pharmacology, and she has over 20 years of experience as a behavioral health services researcher. She is the Multiple Principal investigator (PI) of the Appalachian Node of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN). Her current research is focused on reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with the overdose epidemic, as well as the use of technology to improve access and quality of behavioral health services.
