This lecture will describe recent research on medication for opioid use disorder initiation among hospitalized patients - focusing on trends in patient preference of buprenorphine and methadone initiation, and impact of methadone dose during early hospitalization on patient-directed discharge.

  • Describe patient preferences that impact buprenorphine versus methadone selection​.

Megan Buresh MD

Dr. Megan Buresh is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins. She is board certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine. She is the founding and current medical director of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Inpatient Addiction Consult Service. Her clinical work also includes primary care and low-threshold buprenorphine treatment. Her programmatic and research work focuses on expanding access to addiction treatment across transitions of care and integration of substance use disorder treatment with general medical care.
