Description
The course will discuss current trends opioid use/deaths. The course will discuss substance abuse in relation to how it affects Emergency department patient care etc. We will discuss patient screening for substance use disorder in the ED and how best to recognize patients who present with other chief complaints who may benefit from treatment. The course will discuss MAT/Buprenorphine initiation in the ED in both tertiary care and community settings. There will be discussion in relation to naloxone prescribing from the ED.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the webinar, the attendee will be able to:
  • Understand current substance use disorder/overdose death trends.
  • Understand the limitations of treatment of substance use disorder in the emergency department setting.
  • Understand screening protocols to help identify patients that present in the Emergency department.
  • Understand basic buprenorphine algorithms in the ED.
