Description

This is a review of approaches in prevention, screening, early interventions and treatment of Substance Use Disorders in youth. Review of the Monitoring the Future data sets and emphasis on the non-judgmental approach to youth will be reviewed. New and old drugs on the street will be covered.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this seminar, attendees should be able to:

Demonstrate Motivational Interviewing in Youth with Substance Use Disorders.
List the Stages of Change and intervention strategies for each level for youth with substance use disorders.
Interpret urine drug toxicology and how this information may be used therapeutically Recognition of factors that support safer decision making.

Tony is a rural physician at the Little Colorado Medical Center in Winslow, Arizona. He provides primary care and hospitalist services. He is a 1978 graduate of the MSUCOM program and is board certified in Family Medicine, Adolescent Medicine and Pain and Addiction Medicine. He concentrates in the care of adolescents, Young and old adults with chronic medical disorders.
